Outdoor courts in England & Wales
Covid-19 forced many of us to play pickleball outdoors last year. Some of us might never want to play indoors again, others might just want to play outside until club play indoors is back up and running. We have been asked a few times by members where they can play outdoors, so this page has been created to give you a list of venues, grouped by region below. If you have any more information that can be added or if you are aware of anywhere else with outdoor courts, please email info@pickleballengland.org with the information.
North West
Kendal Tennis Club, Appleby Road, Kendal, Cumbria LA9 6HF. 4 tennis courts in excellent condition, one with two permanently marked pickleball courts.. Join as a member costs £41 for 1st year, entitles you to play both tennis and pickleball. Can come twice as a visitor for £2 each time. Pickleball club night every Wednesday evening (weather dependent) between 6-9pm. Court booking system available for individuals who want to play in groups.
Chatsworth Tennis Club, St Aidan’s Road, Carlisle CA1 1LS. 2 permanently lined courts. Call club to book. £6 per hour. 01228 514187. Organised sessions running most days of the week but places are restricted so need to contact Richard to book a place.
Austwick Tennis Club have 2 permanently marked pickleball courts.
Bentham playing fields has 1 permanently marked pickleball court.
Horton-in-Ribblesday playing fields has 1 permanently marked pickleball court.
Chorley Tennis Club – two pickleball courts with tape used for the kitchen line with permanent pickleball nets. Private club with a separate pickleball section which costs £60 for one year unlimited play. £30 for ten sessions and non-members pay £3 for two hours but limited to three sessions. There is an online booking system for the courts.
Winstanley Tennis Club have agreed use of their courts for pickleball. Lines have to be taped out each time. Cost £7 per court per hour.
Rochdale Tennis and Pickleball. Dewhirst Road, Syke, Rochdale OL12 0AG. Rochdale now has 6 fully lined pickleball courts. Equipment provided. Free use. Donations welcome. Fixed evening sessions – Monday 17:45 (if dry). Alternate sessions by arrangement. Phone for possible alternate days. Bolton, Lancashire. 2 hours play on 4 outdoor tennis courts at Moss Bank Park, Bolton. No charge. Chalk lines. Pre book online.

Bramhall Park Lawn Tennis Club, Bramhall, Stockport. One court with painted lines. Pre-booking is essential.
Macclesfield Tennis Club, Park Lane, Macclesfield, Cheshire SK11 8JR. Two beautiful pickleball courts (see right). Pay and Play £3 or £45 annual membership.
Chester U3A Group play at Westminster Park, Hough Green, Chester. There are 3 courts. Need to pre-book. Sessions are 9.30-11.30 3 days per week. Need to be member of U3A (£12 pa). During Covid restrictions groups of 6 are pre-organised. Post Covid sessions will still be organised in advance
Peaky Picklers now have two outdoor pickleball courts painted at Chinley and Buxworth Community Centre, 21 Lower Ln, Chinley, High Peak, Derbyshire SK23 6BE. Playing times are set by players based on availability and weather. To hire the courts at £5 per person per two-hour session, contact Cath Townley by email or text/phone (07400 030066).
North East
Tollerton, York. Adhoc £5.00 1 hr for the court, 3 full size tennis courts available.
Ripon Pickleball Club. Outside play only between May and end of September at Ripon Spa Park. Play arranged mostly at weekends spring, summer and autumn. Contact club secretary for details. The Spa Park postcode is HG4 2AX. There’s limited on-street parking in Church Lane alongside Spa Park.
Rothwell District Lions Club helped raise funds to paint lines on a tennis court at Springhead Park,Park Ln, Rothwell, Leeds LS26 0DY. See picture below. pickleballjane80@gmail.com is offering taster sessions. Details of which are on Playtimescheduler.com.
Richmond & Wellford Pickleball Club have access to the outdoor courts at Wellfield Tennis Club, 1-4 Mill Lane High, Darlington, DL2 2HL. West Midlands
Rugby, Warwickshire: 3 dedicated pickleball courts with 2 permanent nets, free to use for all. Occasional organised play but mainly privately organised. Shuttleworth Road, Rugby CV23 0DB.
Bentley Heath Park, Solihull, West Midlands: Solihull Pickleball meet on two tennis courts twice a week for 2 hours each time. Prebook at no charge. Hockley Heath pickleball also meet there on other days.
Solihull council have now added pickleball markings on tennis courts 1&2 at Malvern Park, New Road B91 3DL. Free to book.
Streetly, Sutton Coldfield. 3 dedicated pickleball courts (1 with permanent net), free to use. Some organised play.
Chesterfield Pickleball Club. We have four outside courts at Eastwood Park, Hasland, Chesterfield S41 0AY. Organised club sessions every Monday and Thursday afternoon from 2.30pm. Court fees £1 for members, £2.50 for non-members. New players, no fee for first three visits. Contact.
Winster Playing Fields, Wensley Road, Winster, Derbyshire. Flat astroturf surface. Thursday 10am-12 noon £5 per session. Contact.
East Midlands

Abington Park, Northampton. Outdoor tennis courts, use tape to mark the courts. £6 per hour.
Cambridge Pickleball Club in Cambridge City. 4 outdoor courts marked on a ‘free to play’ tennis court. No payment. No booking, sometimes have to wait for tennis game to finish. Organised sessions.
Castor, Cambridgeshire. Two temporary pickleball court lines. Members only. £60 annual membership.

Cromer Pickleball Club‘s Friday night club sessions are outdoors during the Summer 7pm-8.30pm. The club has 4 pickleball courts on 2 tennis courts. Norwich Road, Cromer, NR27 0EX

Crowland, Lincolnshire. One outdoor pickleball court. No cost to play but you do need a net.
Market Harborough, Leicestershire. two courts on one tennis court marked with chalk. Public tennis courts, no booking, no cost. It is hoped the council will mark the lines permanently.
Kirby Muxloe Tennis Courts, Court Close, Kirby Muxloe, Leicestershire LE9 2DD. Public tennis court, pickleball lines, use tennis net, no charge. Organised session Wednesday 7pm-9pm.
South West
Portsmouth Tennis Centre now have 4 permanent outdoor floodlit pickleball courts available to book at £6 per hour. Address: Alex Way, Hilsea, Portsmouth PO2 9AD. These are bookable via this link.

Jubilee Centre, Bristol. 4 pickleball courts painted with red lines on tennis courts. £2 per court per hour
Mindy Playing Fields, Bristol BS35 2AL. There are two public tennis courts. Not bookable. No pickleball lines. Tennis net. good surface. Parking available. We use temporary short tennis lines. See picture below.
Dorchester, Dorset. 4 brand new purpose built flood lit outdoor pickleball courts. Pickleball @ Ossies, St Osmund’s Sports Centre, Barnes Way, Dorchester, Dorset DT1 2DZ. Available for hire 5-10pm Monday-Friday and 9am-10pm at the weekend. Contact: sportscentre@stosmunds.dorset.sch.uk
South East- Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Oxfordshire
Chalfont St Peter Tennis Club, Buckinghamshire SL9 9QX offers one new, bespoke outdoor pickleball court with floodlights. Pickleball-only membership of the club is £60pa for unlimited play, and members can book the court using an online system. Guests can play for £5 per session, and prospective members can enjoy three taster sessions before deciding whether to join the club. An open session for members and guests is organised on Saturday afternoons. The Club organises an annual singles and doubles pickleball tournament.
Letchworth: Norton Common, Letchworth, . 3 public courts owned by North Herts District Council. No charge, just turn up and play. No organised club sessions.

Dognell Green, WELWYN GARDEN CITY, Hertfordshire AL8 7BL. Dellcott is a friendly family tennis club which offers social pickleball on Sunday evenings, Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. All equipment is provided and play is open to non-members on a pay to play basis of £3 for a 2 hour session. It caters for up to 16 players who play on tennis courts with pickleball throw down markers (chalk lines are coming soon). Outdoor pickleball court on 2 of the 3 tennis courts. Free of charge. No booking required. The local Charity Horley Lions generously donated funds for a 2nd tennis court to be painted with pickleball lines.
Camberley, Surrey: Watchetts Park. London Road Recreation Ground, Southwell Park Road, Camberley GU15 3QQ. 4 tennis courts. Free to play, no need to book. Have to organise play yourself.
Windlesham Tennis & Theatre, Kennel Lane, Windlesham, Berkshire GU20 6AA. Book in advance. £12 per hour for 2 pickleball courts. Have to organise play for private sessions. Runnymede Royals organise club sessions at this location too.
South East - Kent & East Sussex

Battle, East Sussex. 1 permanently marked pickleball court in the recreation ground. It cannot be booked, so take chances that it is available when you get there. There is no charge to play and we usually organise the play between ourselves.

Wales
Benllech Bay. 2 outdoor Tennis Courts (permanent Pickleball lines). Annual membership £45 with no further cost.
We have a statutory booking of 3 x 3 hour Club sessions. All organised by Kath Knowles via WhatsApp group to ensure CoVid. safe play (Tue pm, Thur am. Sunday (all day if needed). Individuals can also organise their own play direct with the venue if they do wish.
Blaenau Gwent Pickleball Club in Wales, have three courts marked out at Llanfoist near Abergavenny
Tawe Pickleball Club meets regularly outside at
Ystradgynlais Recreation Ground SA9 1BH Wednesdays 18.00 to 20.00. Instruction, play and equipment are provided free of charge for as long as necessary. All welcome.
Isle of Man
Isle of Man now has 3 Outdoor Courts painted at Nobles Park, Douglas near the Café and Skate park. People will need to bring their own nets, paddles and balls but the courts are marked and Ellan Vannin Pickleball Club 
will be holding public sessions in the spring, summer and autumn.
